About
Cherry Grove Manor is situated on 16 acres near the mouth of the Elk River. The home was built by businessman and developer William T. Juliano in the 1990’s. Juliano reclaimed many historical pieces on the home and around the property. For example the lights lining the drive were old Philadelphia street lights and the railing around the back patio was reclaimed for a Philadelphia Public School. If you look closely you’ll see the PPS on the railing. These are some of the details that make this such a special place.
The Water
If you like living on the water this is the place for you. The house has 550 ft of water frontage. There are perfect view of the the water from the house. After a short walk down to the water’s edge you’ll be on your own private sand beach.
History
This property was originally part of the Veazey family homestead. Half a mile down Cherry Grove Rd you’ll find the Ancestral home of the De Veazie (Veazey) family; patented to John Veazey ca. 1670. His descendant, Colonel Thomas Ward Veazey, defended Duffy’s Fort, Fredericktown, from the British fleet May 5, 1813, and served as Governor of Maryland, 1836–1839. He is buried here in the family graveyard with his three wives.
Some of the history is a little fuzzy and we are working to connect all of the dots. We do know that businessman William T Juliano owned the land at 1248 Cherry Grove and a large portion of the land surrounding the property. He built Cherry Grove Manor and dubbed in “River House” in 1995. Look for the original stone by the garage. The property changed hands a few times over the years to notable members of the community. For instance the property was owned by Gunter Sunkler who owned Schaefer’s Canal House for 30 Years.
